New Brighton, MN, January 09, 2018 –(PR.com)– Today, United Theological Seminary of the Twin Cities is the first seminary in the world to issue a call for submissions for essays, poetry, art, and academic articles related to Prince’s spirituality and religion in his art. This international call for submissions (at unitedseminary.edu/prince) follows United’s own Theology of Prince project where United students visited Paisley Park, submitted art, poetry, and essays, and engaged in an open mic and Prince dance party.

Even though Prince was an international musical, fashion, and cinematic artist, little is known about the impact of religion and spirituality on his music and artistic expression. Through this Call for Submissions on the Theology of Prince, United will curate and publish art, poems, essays, and academic papers from a variety of religious, spiritual, and theological perspectives. United is interested in the intersection of faith/spirituality and art, and seeks to explore the ways faith is expressed creatively in the world through Theology of Prince.

“Prince was one of the most successful recording artists of all times. One of the things that made him so successful were his religious and spiritual devotions that became recurring themes throughout his nearly 40 years of making music. United, by offering Theology of Prince, reaffirms its commitment to offering students creative and unique ways to study theology and become effective leaders without shying away from controversial subjects,” Pamela Ayo Yetunde, United’s Director of Interreligious Chaplaincy said.

A $500 prize will be awarded to one entry in each category, and winners will be published on The Canvas, United’s digital publishing platform. Additionally, in partnership with the University of Minnesota, writers, scholars, and artists who submit excellent work may be invited to present at the Prince from MPLS Conference, April 16-18, 2018.
