Lafayette, LA, June 22, 2017 –(PR.com)– After more than a year, the pedestrian bridge connecting University Place Apartments to The University of Louisiana-Lafayette campus is set to open on July 1, 2017, once again giving UPA residents easy access to the campus. Rob Tulloch, spokesperson for the owner of UPA commented, “This bridge is a vital connection for our residents and ULL. We were happy to be able to work with the city to find a solution to replace the old bridge.” What was a mile walk to campus has now been shortened to just 47 steps.

Joshua, a student at The University of Louisiana-Lafayette, is excited at the time he’ll save, “I can see campus from my window, but because of the bridge closure it takes me about 20 minutes to get to class. When the bridge opens, it will cut my commute time to about a minute.”

The cost of the bridge was a large hurdle to overcome. Lafayette city officials believed it was a good idea to repair the bridge, but the funds weren’t available. After working with the city, University Place Apartments stepped in to pay for a large portion of the repairs. Bobby Child, Portfolio Manager of the property management company, believed the high cost was justified for his residents, “We are excited to open this pedestrian bridge to connect our residents directly to ULL’s campus. By installing the bridge, we are giving our residents the best student housing location in the market and allow them to be more directly tied to the Rajin’ Cajun community!”

The estimated opening of the University Place pedestrian bridge is scheduled for July 1, 2017. University Place Apartments is located on Oak Crest Drive and is adjacent to ULL. In addition to the new bridge, the owners of UPA are also upgrading the interiors of some of the apartments as part of their ongoing commitment to the property, the school, and the city of Lafayette.
